Patient Education:
Implants
Understanding Implants:
- Implants are used to replace teeth without affecting neighbouring teeth.
- You can replace one or many teeth at at time.
- The implant acts as the root of the tooth.
- Once the implant is secure (osseus integrated) in about six months, the tooth or teeth can then be placed on top of the implant.
Procedure:
First, we establish that the bone is appropriate to take the implant. Special x-rays and measurements are taken. If okay, then Stage 1 begins. The implant is placed and then covered over with the gum tissue.
Stage 1

In Stage 2, approximately six months later, the implant is exposed and an implant abutment is placed. We then can fabricate a tooth or teeth on the implant or implants.
Stage 2
